After retiring to the South Eastern Oklahoma Ouachita Mountains she took the opportunity to return to her love of Art, and to sculpt in clay Her themes are based on Jungian Psychology, Anthropology, Mythology and Religion, in short: how we experience life.

Ingrid Gipson selects the motif for each work very carefully and edits rigorously where it has collective meaning and thus addresses the deepest most ancient parts within us all.

Art was my passion all through high school and college. In these years
I was exposed and involved in two large summer art festivals each year
in Laguna Beach with hundreds of different artisans showing everything
from painting, sculpture, jewelry, pottery and textiles to dance, music
and poetry.

Every summer the ” Festival of the Arts ” puts on the “Pagent of the
Masters” where famous works of art are remade and presented on a live
stage using real people and creating life sized paintings that you can
not tell from the originals of Monet, Rembrant, etc. So I was open to all art forms.

Although I loved the art exposure of that area, it has become over-developed and overcrowded. Mena has become my home now with the
diversity of nature and Native American influence that inspires my work.

Bill’s work has been in juried shows around the Arkansas: Eldorado, Fort Smith, Springdale, and Little Rock. One painting was published in the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion Calendar for 2007. His work can be seen at the Arkansas Sheriff’s Boy’s Ranch at Alma, Rich Mountain Community College in Mena, and at the Fine Art Center in Hot Springs. Covering a wide spectrum, from family portraits to wildlife illustrations, his flexibility lets him approach canvas or paper from many different perspectives. A private studio behind his home provides serenity needed to pursue his passion with professionalism.

Like other self-taught artists, Bill has a somewhat unorthodox approach to art. He uses a grisalle method when doing oils, layering oil colors over acrylic underpaintings in black and white. He has lately combined egg tempera with watercolors—tempera being a type of watercolor. His preferred medium, however, is pure transparent watercolor. An avid bird watcher, he observes many of the birds he paints right in his back yard. He recently did a series of snake illustrations for an article in an outdoor magazine written by a friend.

Bill maintains that credibility is often established by hard work and dedication and that too much emphasis is placed on talent. Reflecting on his accomplishments, he states, “Inspiration sparks creativity. The magic has to be there to draw my attention. If the magic isn’t there, I can’t do justice to my work.”

For the past four years, Bill has taught watercolor and pencil drawing as a community service class at Rich Mountain Community College in Mena and this fall semester is scheduled to teach a sixty-plus class in drawing and painting there.

Previous to my move here, I spent 16 years in Homer, Alaska. I had lots of adventures during that time, but it was the dark Alaskan winters where I made my first stained glass window, beaded a lamp shade, created mosiacs and so much more. I was hooked from that point on, and every spare moment, outside of working as a graphic designer, is devoted to my art and craft of stained glass, mosaics and jewelry making.

I have 2 online shops: BeadedGlass.etsy.com, original stained glass and mosaics (home of the Kaleidoscope and Aurora Borealis Lamp Shades) and DeepSouthJewelry.etsy.com, one-of-a-kind beaded and fused necklaces, earrings and ceiling fan bead pulls. I am a self-taught artist inspired by my experiences and surroundings. I am a member of the Piecemakers, a motivating and challenging mosaic group. I have participated in two challenges, one was “Kaleidoscope” in which I won 1st place, the other the “Feather” Challenge, in which I placed 3rd.

As a small girl, Carolyn has always had an interest in her Native American background. Her work in Native American art began in 1995 when she moved to Mena, Arkansas, and met so many native friends. Since then, she has taught herself to weave dreamcatchers and has advanced to creating original styles such as the butterfly, starburst, beaded teepee, stars, hearts, and teardrop.

Dreamcatchers range in size from tiny earrings to 12 inches in diameter and from bright colors to natural earthtones.

Carolynne has sold her work in many craft shows in the Mena area as well as nearby Oklahoma Pow-Wows. She has also won many ribbons for her work at the county fair.

In 2007, Carolynne and has family organized a Native American exhibit for Mena Art Gallery that included paintings, three-dimensional works, dancing, music, and drumming.

Dawn is also the creator of the annual Mena Art Gallery Haunted House, in which she and her family make all the props and décor.

Currently, she resides in Potter, Arkansas, where she raises goats, works in the garden, and continues to learn new trades.

Gilda began experimenting with art materials at a young age. She gained basic ark skills and creativity from her late mother and grandmother. She received an undergraduate degree in art from Southern Arkansas University and started her career as an art educator.

Gilda presently works in her Hawke Hollow Studio nested in the Ouachita Mountains of southeast Oklahoma. She is a multimedia artist, but prefers pen and ink.

Gilda has distinguished herself in art shows and competitions across the south. When not involved in her art career, Gilda enjoys volunteering with the Humane Society of the Ouachitas and serving on several organizational boards.

Henry grew up in a very small town before TV and the internet when books were the source of anything you wanted to learn. He began drawing before he began going to school, sold his first oil paint at age nine, and taught himself watercolor, pastel, colored pencil, etching, carving and sculpture. He entered and won mural contest while still in grammar school and continued painting throughout his life and a career that included computers, running conventions and making movies.

Henry has attended many schools and has an MS degree. He has worked extensively with many fine Artist and attended and taught numerous workshops, but he still contends that the best education is obtained by hard work, self-study, constant practice, and researching and working with really good artist.

Henry has been accepted into a multitude of juried shows, has won numerous top awards and has been represented by galleries is several states. For the past 20 years Henry has specialized in Portraits, commissions and private lessons, and has collectors Nationwide. But, after moving to Mena he has terminated his Gallery representation and is focusing on a list of things he wants to do.

He is a long time member of the American Watercolor Society and is a Juried Member of Oil Painters of America, a past President Elect and Signature Member of the North Carolina Watercolor Society, a member of the Mena Art Gallery and a Board Member of the Southwest Artist Association.

All my adult life I had a desire to learn how to make wheel-thrown pottery. A few years after we came to Mena, the community college here offered a six-week course in wheel-thrown pottery. However, I was the only person to register, so it was canceled. When the college expanded its art studio, I enrolled in the 2005 spring semester of Clay I taught by Sandra McMaster. I spent long hours after class trying to throw a pot. Unfortunately, at the end of the semester, I had only two “mushrooms” to show for my effort! I was determined to learn, so that spring my husband and I set up my studio. I boosted my education with videos, books, periodicals, and hands-on experience. I opened my showroom in October 2008. Both my and my husband’s works are for sale there.

I produce wheel-thrown and altered low-fire earthenware, mid-and high-fire stoneware and fire all in electric kilns. I do some hand-building. Most of my pieces are glazed with multiple layers of color. I make a variety of functional and decorative pottery, including fruit and bread bowls, garlic jars, salt and pepper shakers, liquid soap dispensers, bird baths and bird houses, large jars, vases, and more.

Tyrone’s wonderful use of color and light in his paintings faithfully represents the ever changing landscapes of the American horizon. Traveling through the United States, he faithfully brings life to his canvases, freezing in time the beauty of nature. Now a full time artist, he has become a serious, dedicated, fine artist of significance.

Tyrone’s work has won recognition through regular inclusion in major shows, galleries and collections throughout the United States, and abroad. His entry in the “Salon International 2011″ exhibition won “Honorable Mention Award of Excellence for Artistic Achievement,” one of the few awards offered. Being one of the largest and most important exhibits, internationally, it draws thousands of entries from across the globe. His work was selected amongst over 1700 entries to the “Paint America 100.” Two paintings were selected to represent each state. From two entries, Tyrone’s work was selected to represent both Arkansas and New Mexico. He also won the juror’s choice award at the “Maryland Federation of Art, 5th Annual National Landscape Exhibition. Over thousands of entries, his work has repeatedly appeared in the “Arts for the Parks” national exhibition and “Paint America”; “Society of Master Impressionist International Exhibition”; “Second International ARC Salon Competition” (2000 entries); “International Contemporary Masters of Fine Art”; and many more.

Tyrone’s work is represented by several prestigious galleries across the United States. They are: Santa Fe Fine Arts Brokerage and Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Gallery Central, Hot Springs, Arkansas; S.R. Brennen Galleries, Scottsdale; and Lagerquist Art Gallery, Atlanta’s oldest and most prestigious dealer of original, fine art.
